We are grateful for international efforts to lessen space hazards and anticipate that they will close the regulatory gap brought about by improvements in space technology and systems.
A delegation from the UAE is taking part in the UN Open-ended Working Group on Reducing Space Threats through Norms, Rules, and Principles of Responsible Behaviors. The delegation is led by the Assistant Minister for Advanced Sciences and Technology Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and includes representatives from the UAE Space Agency.

The third session's goal is to offer suggestions for reducing state-level dangers to space systems, including averting a space arms race.
The meeting, which will take place in Geneva, Switzerland, from January 30 to February 3, 2023, will bring together leaders from government, business, and academia to discuss creating mechanisms to guarantee the peaceful and responsible use of space.
The UAE's participation is consistent with its dedication to promoting laws that safeguard ethical space usage, the sustainability of space activities, and the environment in space.
Given the importance of space accessibility, the UAE supports global norms that would lessen current risks without enforcing any rules that may preclude any country from acquiring space capabilities.
"In the UAE, space operations are not seen as a competition. We regard it as a discipline that fosters international cooperation, cultivates talent, and advances mankind." The UAE is one of the major decision-makers in terms of global space policies, and we are very appreciative of global efforts to lessen space threats. We support the creation of new, dynamic regulations to promote the peaceful use of space while enhancing trust and transparency between all stakeholders. We anticipate that these initiatives will close the regulatory gap brought on by the development of space technology and systems. Global collaboration can reduce and eliminate space risks, stop a future race to build space weapons, and provide equitable and all-encompassing solutions to ensure that everyone has access to this limited and highly valued resource.
The UAE delegation will provide suggestions at the third session on prospective norms, rules, and principles of responsible behaviours concerning space risks. These suggestions were made in the wake of the inaugural Abu Dhabi Space Debate. One of the suggestions is to create a global framework for space governance to increase industry transparency.
The Abu Dhabi Space Debate provides a stage for international leaders to debate issues and prospects for the sector while dispensing sound advice and promoting cooperation in the industry. In December 2022, the debate's opening ceremony was attended by more than 300 decision-makers, ministers, and representatives of international space organisations from more than 47 countries.
Additionally, the UAE has been chosen to serve as head of the 100-member UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) from 2022 to 2023. The UAE's importance in space policy and initiatives to encourage debate on crucial global issues affecting the space sector is reflected in this nomination. The UAE's ability to support international agreements and accords in response to geopolitical and economic concerns also serves as a display of its diplomatic and soft power skills.
